Oncology Massage for Cancer Patients

Oncology massage is a specialised form of massage therapy designed to meet the specific needs of cancer patients. It focuses on providing a gentle and nurturing touch to help improve the overall well-being of individuals undergoing cancer treatment.

Massage can play a crucial role in improving the recovery process from cancer treatment by easing the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, such as fatigue, pain, and nausea. It can also help in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression commonly experienced by cancer patients, thereby improving their emotional and mental well-being.

Furthermore, oncology massage has been shown to enhance the benefits of medications by promoting better circulation, reducing inflammation, and boosting the immune system. This holistic approach to cancer care can contribute to a more positive treatment experience and improve the overall quality of life for individuals living with cancer.

What to Expect at Your

First Appointment

Starting something new can feel a little intimidating — especially when you don’t know what to expect. If you’re thinking about booking your first session with me, I want you to know that my goal is to make you feel safe, comfortable, and supported from the moment you arrive.

Whether you’re coming for pain relief, recovery, relaxation, movement support, or simply some time to reconnect with your body, we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you. I’ll explain everything clearly, check in throughout the session, and make space for any questions or adjustments you may need.

I work with a wide range of clients and strive to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for everybody — including neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients. Your comfort, communication needs, boundaries, and individual experiences are always respected here.

If you’ve been nervous about booking your first appointment, you’re not alone — and you’re very welcome here. I am located above VB Fitness a small boutique gym, in a luxury upstairs treatment space. There will be soft music during most sessions, which can be heard from below in the changing rooms.

When you arrive, please park outside the VB Fitness Centre, we also have an area for bikes and a lock available from the reception, if you need one. If there is no reception staff to greet you when you arrive, please walk straight in and take a seat in the cafe area. I will come to collect you when I am ready.

We will begin with a consultation to discuss your medical history, lifestyle, training, pain, injuries, and treatment goals. This helps ensure your treatment is safe, effective, and tailored to your needs. This typically takes around 10-15 minutes at your first session and subsequently 5 minutes to update on each visit.

Your assessment may include posture, movement, flexibility, and muscle testing before treatment begins. I will then propose a treatment plan for that session and discuss future plans. Treatment will then focus on the areas discussed and may include sports massage, soft tissue techniques, mobility work, stretching, or rehabilitation advice.

You may be asked to remove some clothing depending on the area being treated, but you will always be appropriately covered with towels throughout the session. Please wear comfortable clothing where possible. I always ask for belts and shoes to be removed and any jewellery that may be in the way of treatment areas. For women, it is often easier to wear a bra that unclips from the back. Hands-on treatment may last 20-35 minutes, depending on the service and treatment plans you have booked. I typically follow up each session by reassessing your movement and discussing movements and exercises for you, to continue your treatment plan at home.

Some people feel an immediate benefit, with increased pain-free movement, whilst others may need ongoing treatments to reach their goals. It is recommended that you book regularly, every 4-6 weeks is ideal for maintenance treatments to prevent pain and injuries from recurring. The deep tissue and stretching techniques used may cause mild soreness after treatment can be normal for 24–48 hours, good hydration and nutrition can reduce this.

After your treatment, you will receive aftercare advice to drink water, a programme of exercises, stretches, or movement recommendations to support your recovery and wellbeing.

I look forward to welcoming you to my treatment room.
